This short blog
contends, why using the term invent for any new word or phrase
or expression is basically inappropriate or unreasonable.
As, one might have come across writings alike - ‘…that person actually invented those word(s) or expression(s)….!’ For eg. let’s consider the term ‘poverty porn’. Technically, that’s not invent nor invention or innovation.
The usage of the term invent for such new words or expressions, albeit, done generally, is inappropriate, as, it negates, dilutes the whole concept of invent. INSTEAD, terms alike first ever used or originated or coined or conceived or introduced, are more appropriate and reasonable that should be used for any such word(s) or expression(s).
In previous blogs, I’ve already elucidated in depth the difference between Invention, Discovery, Innovation, REsearch, etc. In short herein, Invention is creating novel (product/process); Innovation is use of inventions’ or its introduction with permutations/combinations that cause disruption in the way of life; Discovery is distinct from above two terms, as of discovering anything from perceptible naked eyes which could’ve been discovered by anyone, had that person be in that place! REsearch is re-searching something again on already researched topic, countering it with different conclusions.
Albeit, there’s a common acceptability that Innovation > Invention. But, I support the Otherwise as Invention > Innovation.
Similar to, Tesla > Edison. 🙂
